Of Chariots & Spies

6 x 4h 'Chinese' chariots Hch - converted from Early Carthaginians.  [the 'before' picture is two posts earlier].  No pretense at representing any particular dynasty they are just generic.  Of course there should be 3 crew but I cannot fit the extra bod in.

Next off the painting table will be 10 x Early Carthaginian 4h Hch (proper ones this time).

One of the Harry Palmer series but I didn't get the vibes of that character when I was reading it.  Not one of Len Deighton's best I fear.

Unfortunately I am nearly out of , non-PDF, reading matter but have some on order - wait and see!

Isolation has meant that I am doing various jobs that have been put off for years - clearing my garden for example.  Trouble is I have filled my garden bin - no collections until further notice and the tips are shut as well.  Bit of a log jam!

Sorting out my loft has shown just how many unpainted figures (metal and plastic) I have awaiting my attention.  Also a load of terrain pieces half done.  Have plenty of paints but many have dried out a bit.  Any suggestions as to how to resurrect them?

Anyway....on with the motley!

Books & Magazines

Ian came in on Monday with a pile of books he was selling off cheap.  I snapped up this one.  Given my 'butterfly mind' it was a dangerous purchase - it might have taken me down some dark purchasing alleys.  Luckily the book is so superficial that it is nothing but a starting point.

I have a passing interest in the period.  This is the old 1974 book - it has been replaced by a two-volume issue.

Finally...Chris brought in a book for me to read -
"Bonaparte in Egypt" by J.Christopher Herold
Pub: Hamish Hamilton 1962 - 424 pages.  More on this later.

Unable to contact "Wargaming Girl" aka TamsinP.  No activity on her website since 2nd May.  Cannot read comments so maybe it's a problem with the site itself!   Has anyone had contact and can confirm that she is OK?  As one of the leading wargames bloggers in the UK her contributions to the hobby are sorely missed.

Books & Partizan

Sunday 22nd May 2016 - Partizan @ Newark

Held in an 'aircraft-hanger' type building - high humidity, much noise, good light.  No cash facilities on site.  Very few 15mm figures around.  I should have taken my camera - some of the demo games were notable - Witch Racing (Terry Pratchett characters) - Clothes Pegs armies that looked both retro and spectacular - Very British Civil War.

Also met up with several of my fellow bloggers including the semi-legendary Tamsin.  Still didn't ask her about 'Junglegrave'.  Damn!

My only purchases were two books:

Published by the Pike and Shot Society in 2009 - £10 (courtesy of a loan from John Smith).  I had looked at this tome at another show and then 'hummed and harred' about it.  This time I took the plunge.

Published 1974 (hardback) for £1.95 - I bought it for £3.  Been interested in this war for some time - and it would use up some of the mountain of half-painted Airfix Napoleonics.

It took me 1 hour and 5 mins to travel the 50 miles to get to Newark.  Turning off the A1 was easy enough but the three lane roundabout that you are pushed into was a nightmare. So would I go again?  Well......maybe if they have a few more 15mm figures for sale!

Wednesday 25th May 2016 - Still waiting for summer.

Dull and rainy all day - 9 degrees in the evening,  Managed to get some painting done - various bits for my Renaissance armies.

Must get around to splashing some paint on the new WW1 British (Tropical) figures for the upcoming 18th June scrap.  Probably use "I Wish I Was in France".  Would help if I worked out a scenario as well.

Almost finished another book - third in the series - "The First Colonial Soldiers".  Review in due course!

Not A Lot Going On.....

Too cold to paint in my freezing garret but still reading:

Only about one-third through this one so review later.  Meanwhile back at the club:

 Monday 7th March 2016

DBM - Hunnic v Later Carthaginian - last round of the competition.  Some awful dice throwing by all concerned - failures to move and kill.  Al's left flank eventually fell as he was heavily outnumbered and outclassed - Lh(S) to (O).  On our left flank I could not restrain the Irr Kn(F) and it was only Andy's dice that kept my command intact.  The Wb centres decided to observe rather than take any part in the proceedings.

A 7:3 win for the Huns.  Andy takes the trophy with yours truly an honourable second.

Black Powder on the other table featuring an ACW scrap with 25mm figures.
